Robin Stanley BIO
|
Robin was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and was mainly inspired by the example set by the British new wave music revival that happened at the end of the seventies. Taking his cue from Ray Davies and JoeStrummer, Robin's charisma made him a natural frontman to a number of bands that played to audiences at some of Vancouver's most legendary clubs during the eighties. Finally tiring of the struggle to keep groups together with members who were not as serious about the music, Robin packed in the live performing for awhile to focus on developing his songwriting and home recording skills, settling down in a quiet suburb of Vancouver. There he became a multi-instrumentalist, learning to play bass, keyboards, harmonica as well as guitar. Robin has wide ranging musical influences like Ray Davies, Joe Strummer, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Brian Wilson, Pete Townshend and Leonard Cohen. Always the romantic dreamer, he never gave up on the hope that he would someday release an album of his own songs and resume live performing. Robin contributed a song each to Unsound Vol 1 in 1998 and Burnt Marshmallows and Teeny Bikinis in 2000, both acclaimed and respected international indie releases. In 2004 Robin released his first CD, Mad Kingdom, and began reaching out to music fans in wider international circles, as well as receiving radio exposure in Canada, Europe and the US. He also resumed live performances at smaller music venues in and around the Vancouver area. In August of 2007 Robin released his second CD, Chronic Empire, and further expanded his exposure in international markets, making new fans in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, US and Canada. Both Mad Kingdom and Chronic Empire are available for purchase at www.cdbaby.com. Robin's enchanting video performance of "A Heart Without A Home" can now be seen on YouTube. Robin now has myspace and Facebook pages.. Visit www.myspace.com/robinstanleymusic or join him on Facebook to get the latest. Robin continues to work on the follow up to Chronic Empire, which will feature the best songs of his career. Robin continues to build up an international fan base with a catchy alternative pop music style that has blues, folk and rock influences.
